The first thing i did when planning my college magazine was to write a questionaire, and get a reasonably sized sample of college students to fill it in. We produced a calss questionaire, and all got 5 people to fill it out.
The results of the questionaire show that the students at my college, would want a cheap magazine, that had a new issue out every month. It showed that the students would like a varied content, with the most popular article ideas being music, sports, movies, games, jokes, and college news. Most people had hobbies that were either musical or sporting, and the most popular genre of music was indie, closely followed by rock, then metal. The questionaire showed that the students would like a mix of pictures and writing in thr magazine, and should have a mix between a serious and a jokey tone.
From these resuls i decided that my magazine should be a based around music and sports, aswell as intergrating student life into it.
Next i analysed a existing college magazine cover "SOUP" (see earlier post) to gain insperation on how to design my magazine cover, what i should put in it, and what my cover image should be.
Finally i planned my magazine cover and contents page. I orginally planned to have a picture of a college band infront of the main college entrance on the front of the magazine. With my magazine title "Avenue" as the masthead. I changed this idea during my photoshoot, as i felt a single member of the band on his own would be a more striking image. For my contents page, i copied the style of a contents page from FHM, as i felt this would help me learn new photoshop skills.
